FDA Warning

The FDA has now recommended people stop using sleep positioners, such as those seen below.  We have used the flat kind on Audrey (pic 1), but there are also inclined ones (pic 2) that help with gastroesophageal issues.  This is not a recall, as that would require more time to investigate, but they are issuing a warning that they are potentiall dangerous (12 deaths since 1997).  The FDA had previously approved some brands, and they have invited those brands to issue studies to the FDA so they can be re-approved but until that time, they are saying stop using them all.

Obviously, we have not had any problems with Audrey sleeping in hers, but we are going to discontinue it's use.  This does scare me a little since turning over will be easier for her, and they are supposed to stay on their backs during sleep to decrease SIDS risk.  But, she is wrapped up tighter than a straight jacket in her swaddler, so maybe that will hinder her ability to flip over in her sleep.  The great thing is that we have a video monitor, so we can see when she has flipped over and we can reposition her.  But now, our little wiggle worm will have more room to move around in the crib- can't wait to share where she ends up in the mornings!

PS- THANKS MIM FOR LETTING US KNOW ABOUT THIS!!
