Feeding issues

So at the hospital Savannah was not latching and losing weight, so we finally got a plan on getting her fed.  They figured she was not sucking because of all the suction she got when she was born since she was not crying enough.  The plan was to finger-tube feed her.  I had to hold a tube connected to my finger and if she sucked 3 times, my helper would give her a little milk, but only if she sucked and not bit.  It worked and she was finally eating enough to be milk drunk!

After several days of this, she still was not nursing so I tried giving her a bottle, which she took to wonderfully!

First doctor visit

At her weight check when she was 5 days old, she still weighed 6lb 8oz which was the same at discharge.  So the doctor wanted her to come for another weight check a week later.

That Tuesday was also the first day that she nursed, yay!!!!!  I had to use, and still do, a shield to help me fit her mouth but whatever it takes!  Since then she has been nursing almost 100% of her feedings, she just has a bottle of pumped milk right before bed and then one overnight if she wakes up on Eric's watch!

At her second weight check, one week later, she had gained 3 oz and weighed 6lb 11oz so we are very thankful that she has finally been packing on some weight! The doctor even let us wait until her one month visit to come back to be weighed :)
