Surgery

A few weeks ago we found out that Audrey was going to need her second set of ear tubes, and also have her adenoids removed.  Yesterday was the day.

Here she is in the waiting room. We had to be there at 6:45 a.m. thankfully, since she had not had anything to eat or drink since the night before. They called us back pretty quickly and she met all the nurses, anesthesiologists and anyone else who stopped by to see the little sweetie who was cracking up behind her curtain! 

We had to keep her super entertained because we sat there for almost two hours before they took her back. Not sure why it took them that long since she was his first surgery but anyway.  Let me just tell you, this GIRL WAS A TROOPER! She didn't once ask for food or anything to drink, and only asked once for gum.  Any regular morning, she is demanding "logurt" within 12 seconds of her eyes opening.  We had talked about it beforehand but she was still apprehensive of going back to see her ear doctor- she still remembers taking those first set of tubes out, something I will never forget either.   I am SO proud of how she handled herself yesterday, I cannot even describe it.

When the nurse came in to get her, she went to her with no problems and requested the cotton candy "giggle gas". I think she thought she was getting candy but whatever works.  The procedure took about 30 minutes, during which time Eric thankfully went to grab breakfast for us because this pregnant lady could not have gone much longer.  Then our beeper went off and the doctor said everything went great! 

We had to go back to the waiting room for another half hour until they called us into recovery. They wheeled her in and she was still so sleepy! But I gave her one of her babies and she was happy to sit there and drink her juice. 

The nurse told me that when she first woke up she was crying and fighting them so they gave her some extra pain meds, which led to the extreme loopiness she experienced.  If they had known her, they would have known that her fighting off unknown people touching her is normal!

Her face isn't swollen here, she just wanted to smile with 1/2 of her face I guess.  After a few minutes of sitting in recovery, she wanted her second baby doll, and she started falling asleep hold all three things! Luckily, they removed the IV while she was asleep so it didn't hurt her to take all that tape off.

After that, we packed up and headed home! On the way we stopped and pretty much bought Kroger's stock in popsicles for the princess.  Once we got home, she refused to sleep, she just wanted to lay down on her couch with her blankie and watch Diego.  And within a few hours and after an eventual nap, she was pretty close to normal! All day she was a little pale and grumpy but by last night she was running around the house again.

I wish I could convey how proud we all are of how she handled everything! Love this strong, sweet baby of ours so much!!
